Kyle

Disability:

Kyle fell 60 feet onto concrete from a 5th story hotel room balcony. A miracle to survive at all, he suffered a broken tibia, fibula, femur and hip. He broke vertebra T-7 through T-12, numerous ribs, and punctured his right lung. Kyle's accident has had an impact on more than just his body, and was extremely hard on his family. The oldest of six children, Kyle was seen by his siblings first as invincible, living a rock-star-like life in the fast lane, then as a 'fallen' hero.

Ability:

But as his family watched Kyle go from hospital bed, where he couldn't feed himself or sit up, to full independence and competing athletically in less than a year, the idea of 'impossible' never enters their minds now. The experience has changed the value Kyle places on family, giving and being a role-model for others. A talented athlete excelling in many sports, Kyle had to learn to live his life on new terms. He was introduced to the world of wheelchair racing and hand-cycling and has already completed 4 half Marathons, 1 full marathon and his first triathlon (CAF Half Ironman) last October. Kyle is also training to be a group exercise instructor and is the first wheelchair athlete to be hired through the Project VisAbility program. Kyle is currently working at Crunch Fitness in the LA area.

Our "Project VisAbility Inspirations" reflect the attitude, ability and strength it takes to succeed despite some of life's most intense challenges. By sharing these stories of achievement, we hope you will be as touched and motivated by them as we are… perhaps to join and support our program, and hopefully in some way that will change the perceptions about "disabilities", helping us to raise the VisAbility.
